סִיר נָפוּחַ (*sir naphuach*) = a blown/seething cauldron — *naphuach* (from נפח, to blow, to stoke a flame) describes a pot actively driven to boiling. פָנָיו מִפְּנֵי צָפוֹנָה (*panav mippney tzafonah*) = "its face from the north" — the pot is tilted so its scalding contents will pour southward over the land of Yehudah. The north in the Latter Prophets is consistently the horizon of Assyrian and Babylonian invasion, the direction of covenant judgment. FOG uses "seething pot" and "face tilted from the north" for physical exactness; FOG Message uses "boiling pot" for immediate visceral impact.
