Footnotes
*Shechar* (strong drink/beer) was a fermented grain beverage distinct from *yayin* (wine) — together they represent the full spectrum of intoxicants available. The leaders' toast is a grotesque parody of prophetic confidence: while true prophets announce YHWH's imminent day of salvation (v. 1), these pseudo-shepherds announce only another day of indulgence. The phrase echoes Amos 6:1–6, where the complacent elite drink wine from bowls while the nation unravels. The sudden shift into first-person speech ('Come, I will fetch wine') gives the verse a vivid dramatic quality, as if overhearing the leaders' private carousing. FOG renders it as dramatic monologue; FOG Message uses the collective 'let's' throughout.
