*Atzuvat ruach* ('crushed/grieved in spirit') — the root *atzav* means to wound deeply, to carve, to cause lasting anguish. This is not mild sadness but soul-deep laceration. 'The wife of your youth' (*eshet ne'urim*) echoes Proverbs 5:18 and Malachi 2:14, where faithfulness to 'the wife of your youth' is framed as a solemn covenant obligation. YHWH presents Himself as the wronged husband who nonetheless calls his wife back — a radical reversal of ancient social convention, where a divorced woman was rarely if ever restored. FOG preserves the raw wound of *atzav* with 'crushed in spirit'; FOG Message uses 'heartbroken' to bring the emotional devastation forward.
