*Niggash* (נִגַּשׂ) means to be driven hard and pressed upon; *na'aneh* (נַעֲנֶה), the niphal of *anah*, can mean both 'he was afflicted' and 'he submitted/answered'—the ambiguity is theologically rich, holding together involuntary suffering and voluntary obedience. *Seh* (שֶׂה) is a single sheep or young goat—the same word used of the Passover lamb in Exodus 12:3, 5, linking the Servant directly to the sacrifice that secured Israel's deliverance from death. John 1:29 and 1 Peter 1:19 draw explicitly on this image. FOG uses 'ewe' for the parallel shearer scene to distinguish the two animal images; FOG Message uses 'sheep' for liturgical familiarity.
