The verb *hifgi'a* (הִפְגִּיעַ) is the hiphil causative of *paga'* (פָּגַע), meaning to cause something to strike or land forcefully on a person. This is not passive—YHWH actively directs the blow. Crucially, the same root reappears in verse 12 as *yafgi'a*, 'he makes intercession,' creating a stunning inclusio: YHWH causes guilt to fall *upon* the Servant (v. 6), and the Servant then *intercedes* for the guilty (v. 12). FOG renders 'caused the guilt to fall upon Him' to preserve this causative force; FOG Message uses 'laid on Him' for idiomatic clarity and resonance with New Testament atonement language.
