*Chadal ishim* (חֲדַל אִישִׁים) is a rare and pointed expression—'the one abandoned by men,' 'the one from whom men withdraw'—not merely disliked but actively avoided, as one shuns a plague victim. The word *choli* (חֹלִי) carries the double freight of physical sickness and interior grief; Matthew 8:17 reads this verse as literal healing of disease, while the broader song points to spiritual suffering—the ambiguity is deliberate. *Mak'ovot* (מַכְאֹבוֹת) are sharp, piercing pains. FOG uses 'pains' and 'sickness' to preserve the embodied, physical register; FOG Message renders them 'sorrows' and 'grief' to draw out the emotional and empathic dimension.
