*Chug ha'aretz* (חוּג הָאָרֶץ) is the "circle" or "vault" of the earth — the ancient cosmological image of the sky-dome arching over a disc-shaped earth. Some translators render it "sphere" to suggest scientific prescience, but the ANE context points firmly to the *raqia* dome-cosmology of Gen. 1 rather than a Copernican globe. *Kaddoq* (כַּדֹּק) means fine gauze or gossamer-thin cloth — the sky stretched like a delicate veil. FOG uses "vault" and "fine gauze" to honour the ancient cosmological frame; FOG Message uses "circle" and "curtain" for liturgical weight and readability.
