The juxtaposition of verses 10 and 11 is theologically stunning: the same divine arm that rules in sovereignty (v.10) is the arm that gathers defenceless lambs and presses them to His chest. *Cheiq* (חֵיק) is the chest or bosom — the same word used in John 1:18 of the Son who is "in the bosom of the Father." *Alot* (עָלוֹת) are nursing ewes — those most burdened and slowest-moving — and it is precisely these the shepherd leads with greatest gentleness (*yenahal*, a word for gentle guiding, never driving). The image resonates with Ps. 23, John 10, and Ezek. 34. FOG uses "chest" for physical immediacy; FOG Message uses "bosom" for its covenantal and Johannine echo.
