The Guide walks *behind* the people—not driving them from the rear as a herdsman drives livestock, but accompanying them as one who can call them back at the precise moment of straying. The *derekh* (דֶּרֶך, “way/path”) resonates throughout Scripture as the path of covenant faithfulness (cf. Ps. 1; Prov. 3:6) and ultimately finds its fullest expression in Yeshua’s self-designation as “the Way” (John 14:6). FOG and FOG Message both preserve the spatial detail of the voice “behind”—it is the detail that transforms instruction into companionship.
