The verb *nasak* (לִנְסֹך) and noun *massekhah* (מַסֵּכָה) literally describe the pouring of a libation to ratify a covenant — here applied to the diplomatic treaty negotiations with Egypt. Sealing foreign alliances involved ritual acts that were simultaneously political and religious, placing trust in human power rather than YHWH’s *ruach*. The charge is therefore not merely bad strategy but covenant adultery. FOG preserves *Ruach* as a transliteration to retain its full range (breath/wind/Spirit); FOG Message uses “Spirit” to foreground immediately the contrast between human scheming and divine guidance.
