"Ariel" (אֲרִיאֵל, *ariel*) carries a deliberate double meaning: "lion of El" (ari + El) and "altar hearth," the fire-pit of sacrifice named in Ezekiel 43:15–16. Isaiah opens with layered irony—the city celebrated as YHWH's lion-city will itself be consumed like fuel on its own altar. The sarcastic imperative to add year upon year and let the feasts cycle implies dangerous religious complacency: pilgrimage continues while judgment approaches. FOG preserves the transliterated name to keep both meanings alive in tension; FOG Message leaves the name intact but allows the ominous undertone to emerge from context across the chapter.
