אֱלִילִים (elilim, singular elil) is a contemptuous diminutive meaning "worthless things, nothings, non-entities." It may be a polemical wordplay on אֵל (El, "God") — these are pseudo-gods, anti-gods, theological zeroes. The F.O.G preserves the transliteration elilim throughout the chapter to sustain this sneering wordplay; the F.O.G Message uses "worthless idols" to communicate the contempt plainly in English.
