The drying of Nimrim's waters signals an ecological catastrophe accompanying military defeat — the land itself dies along with the nation. In the ancient Near East, water sources were synonymous with life, fertility, and divine blessing; their failure meant divine abandonment and curse (cf. Deut. 28:22–24). Three synonyms for vegetation build a crescendo of total loss: *chatzir* (pasture grass), *deshe* (tender fresh growth), and *reshe* (anything green/verdant). Both translations preserve this tripling, though FOG Message lingers over the tenderness of what is lost — green things that would have been signs of hope.
