*Kanfot ha'aretz* (כַּנְפֹות הָאָרֶץ) uses *kanaf* (wing/extremity) — the same word for a bird's wing, the fringes of a garment (*tzitzit*), and the hem of a robe. The image carries the sense of YHWH gathering His scattered children the way a mother bird gathers her chicks beneath her wings (cf. Matthew 23:37). *Nidchei Yisra'el* (נִדְחֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, 'dispersed of Israel') uses the verb *nadach* — to be driven or thrust away by force, not merely to wander off. Their exile was violent; their return will be equally decisive. FOG renders 'four wings of the earth' to preserve the Hebrew spatial poetry and the *kanaf* imagery; FOG Message renders 'four corners of the earth,' the familiar phrase that passed into global idiom directly from this prophetic tradition.
