זָרַע / gender shift / NT echo: The verb זָרַע (zara', "to sow/plant") is the root of Jezreel (Yizre'el), completing the wordplay begun in v.21—what YHWH names He does. The text then performs the long-promised reversals of ch.1: Lo-Ruhamah ("Not Pitied") becomes the object of compassion; Lo-Ammi ("Not My People") becomes "My people." Notably, the Hebrew shifts from feminine ("I will sow her"—the land or nation as woman) to masculine singular—וְהוּא יֹאמַר (vehu yomar, "and he will say")—likely a collective masculine referring to the people of Israel as a whole. The FOG preserves the singular "he will say"; the FOG Message uses "they will say" for natural English flow while capturing the collective sense. Paul applies this verse directly to the Gentile inclusion in the covenant people (Rom 9:25–26; cf. 1 Pet 2:10), reading Hosea's restoration of Israel as a typological anticipation of a wider redemption.
