The verb tirgaltî (תִרְגַּלְתִּי) derives from regel (רֶגֶל, 'foot'), meaning 'I trained the feet of' — i.e., I guided first steps, as a parent steadies a toddler. This intimate parental image is lost in translations that render it abstractly. The F.O.G. preserves the literal foot-training sense; the F.O.G. Message makes 'first steps' explicit for English readers who would otherwise miss the foot-etymology.
