The ruling follows the logic of Lev 6:27 (Heb. 6:20): holiness transmits by direct contact to the flesh touching the sacrifice — but not through secondary contact (garment to food). Holiness is not expansive; it does not radiate outward of its own accord. This is the first half of Haggai's two-part legal argument, establishing the asymmetry that drives his entire theological verdict about the community's defiled offerings.
