Footnotes
וְאָשֵׁם זוּ כֹחוֹ לֵאלֹהוֹ (wĕʾāšēm zû kōḥô lēʾlōhô) is the theological verdict of the oracle, literally: "and he is guilty — this one whose strength is his god." F.O.G preserves the structural abruptness of the Hebrew accusation; F.O.G Message expands it to make the idolatry explicit. This is not merely a description of violence but a diagnosis: Babylon's ultimate sin is the deification of military power. חָלַף רוּחַ (ḥālap rûaḥ, "wind sweeps through") also suggests transience — this terrifying force, for all its momentum, is a passing breath.
