יְקוּם (yekum, "every living thing") derives from קוּם (qum, "to stand/rise"), meaning all that has upright existence. מָחִיתִי (machiti, "blot out") is the image of erasing ink from a scroll — deliberate erasure, not mere destruction. "Forty days and forty nights" becomes a typological marker: Moshe on Sinai (Ex 24:18), Eliyahu's flight to Horeb (1 Kgs 19:8), and Yeshua's wilderness testing (Matt 4:2) all echo this number of ordeal and transformation.
