וַיִּגְוַע (vayyigva) derives from גָּוַע (gava), describing the physical expiration of the last breath — more visceral and specific than the ordinary verb מוּת (mut, "to die"). FOG renders it "perished" for natural flow; FOG Message chooses "breathed its last" to create a deliberate irony: the ruach chayyim (breath of life) breathed in by YHWH in creation (Gen 2:7) is here extinguished — a complete unmaking of the creature.
