In Genesis 1:26 God's creative declaration runs בְּצַלְמֵנוּ כִּדְמוּתֵנוּ (betsalmenu kidmutenu, "in Our image / after Our likeness")—tselem (image) preceding demut (likeness). Here in 5:3 the order deliberately reverses: בִּדְמוּתוֹ כְּצַלְמוֹ (bidmuto ketsalmo, "in his likeness / after his image"). The divine image is still transmitted, but it is now mediated through creaturely descent with human likeness foregrounded—a quiet signal that something has shifted since the Garden. Both versions follow the Hebrew word order; the footnote surfaces what the reversal communicates about the nature of intergenerational transmission under the conditions of the Fall.
