Footnotes
The seventeen years Jacob spent in Egypt directly mirror the seventeen years of Joseph's life before his brothers sold him — Genesis 37:2 establishes Joseph was seventeen when the narrative of betrayal begins. These bookend numbers form a structural frame of wholeness: what was stolen is quietly restored. The years taken from father and son are given back in full measure.
