Hirah uses "qedeshah" (from qodesh — set-apart, consecrated) rather than Yehudah's blunter zonah of v.15. Whether qedeshah denotes a literal cultic role associated with Canaanite sanctuaries or is simply a more decorous social term remains debated; the textual evidence for institutionalised sacred prostitution in Canaan is thinner than once assumed. What is clear is the rhetorical contrast: Hirah's elevated diction either reflects cultural habit or a loyal attempt to dignify his patron's transaction, and both translations preserve the distinction deliberately across vv.15 and 21.
