בְּמִרְמָה (bemirmah) — "with deceit / treachery" — is the narrator's own editorial word, not the brothers' self-description. Crucially, this is the same root used of Ya'akov's deception of Yitzchak in Genesis 27:35, creating an unsettling family pattern. The narrator neither endorses nor condemns what follows; the moral verdict is left entirely open to the reader.
