עָרוּם (arum, "cunning/crafty") is a deliberate wordplay on עֲרוּמִּים (arummim, "naked") from 2:25 — same consonantal root. The chapter opens with a sharp irony: the couple's innocent nakedness (arum) immediately gives way to the serpent's cunning (arum). F.O.G. renders "cunning" to foreground deceptive intelligence; F.O.G. Message uses "craftier" to preserve the comparative weight and moral contrast.
