The verb vayifga' ("came upon/encountered") is stronger than a simple "arrived"—it carries a sense of forcefully striking or intercepting, and is later used for urgent intercession (Jer 7:16; Isa 53:12), giving the encounter a prayerful resonance even before the dream begins. The narrator also uses ha-makom ("the place") three times in this verse without ever naming the location, an insistent repetition that seems deliberate: in later Jewish tradition HaMakom ("The Place") became a reverent divine title, and the text seems to signal that this unnamed spot is already saturated with sacred presence before Jacob closes his eyes.
