צְעָקָה גְדֹלָה וּמָרָה עַד-מְאֹד (tse'akah gedolah umara ad me'od) — "a great and exceedingly bitter cry." The word tse'akah is the very word used for Israel's cry under Egyptian bondage (Exod 3:7, 9). The echo places Esau among the oppressed crying out for relief. The New Testament (Heb 12:17) cites this scene as a warning: the blessing once lost cannot be recovered by tears alone.
