בְּאֵר שָׁבַע (Be'er-Sheva): The name encodes a deliberate double meaning — be'er means "well," and sheva means either "seven" (referencing the seven ewe-lambs set apart as witnesses) or "oath/swearing" (from the verb shava, to swear). Both meanings are simultaneously active in the narrative; the name memorialises both the seven-fold witness and the sworn covenant in a single word. Both translations preserve the place name rather than forcing a single English rendering, so the reader can hold both meanings in view.
