כְּקִיטֹר הַכִּבְשָׁן (k'kitor ha-kivshan) — "like the smoke of a furnace/kiln." This precise image recurs at Gen 15:17, where a smoking furnace (תַּנּוּר עָשָׁן) passes between the covenant pieces in Avraham's great covenant ceremony. The echo is haunting: the fire-and-smoke that once sealed YHWH's covenant-promise to Abraham now consumes the plain that could not keep it. Abraham watches the answer to his own intercession.
