וְאַבְרָהָם עוֹדֶנּוּ עֹמֵד לִפְנֵי יְהוָה — "but Abraham still stood before YHWH" — this is one of the eighteen tiqqunei soferim (תִּקּוּנֵי סוֹפְרִים, scribal corrections), ancient emendations made out of reverence. The original reading, preserved in rabbinic tradition (Bereshit Rabbah 49:7), was "and YHWH still stood before Abraham" — picturing YHWH waiting upon Avraham, positioned to receive his petition. The scribes, finding this image of divine deference too bold, reversed the subject and object. The original reading makes better narrative sense of what follows — Avraham approaches a YHWH who has deliberately remained, ready to be addressed. Both versions follow the Masoretic text as preserved.
