Ha-Ivri (הָעִבְרִי) is the first occurrence of the designation "Hebrew" in Scripture. The term likely connects to Eber (עֵבֶר), an ancestor of Avram, or to the root עָבַר ("to cross over"), marking him as "one from the other side of the river" — a foreigner, an outsider. F.O.G. preserves "the Ivri" to foreground this as an ethnic-covenantal label in its Hebrew form. Ba'alei brit (בַּעֲלֵי בְרִית) literally means "lords/masters of the covenant" — a formal idiom for those bound by treaty obligation, rendered "covenant-partners" in F.O.G. and "sworn allies" in F.O.G. Message.
