Footnotes
Toledot (תּוֹלְדֹת) — "generations" or "account" — is the structural heading formula that organises Genesis into ten sections (this is the ninth occurrence). It derives from yalad (to give birth), literally meaning "begettings." The shift from Babel back to Shem's line is not incidental: out of the wreckage of the nations' self-glorification, the text quietly narrows its lens toward the one family through whom YHWH will act. F.O.G uses "generations" to preserve the structural-genealogical force; F.O.G Message uses "descendants" for natural English flow.
