κατηργήθητε (from καταργέω) means "to render inoperative, to nullify, to sever"—stronger than mere separation; the connection has been functionally neutralised. τῆς χάριτος ἐξεπέσατε uses ἐκπίπτω, "to fall away from, to lose one's footing within"—the image is of losing one's standing-place inside the sphere of grace. F.O.G renders "fallen out of grace" to preserve the spatial metaphor; F.O.G Message uses "fallen away from grace" for natural English idiom.
