The grammatical reversal from γνόντες θεόν ("having known God") to γνωσθέντες ὑπὸ θεοῦ ("having been known by God") is deliberate and theologically decisive — Paul catches himself and corrects the direction of knowing. In biblical thought, to be "known by God" (cf. Jeremiah 1:5; Amos 3:2) is the more fundamental reality: divine initiative precedes and grounds human response. ἀσθενῆ καὶ πτωχά (asthenē kai ptōcha) are contemptuous terms — "weak and utterly destitute" — these powers are pitifully bankrupt compared to the richness of sonship in Messiah. FOG "impoverished" and FOG Message "bankrupt" both render ptōcha, which literally means "beggarly."
