παιδαγωγός (paidagōgos) is not a teacher — the Greek word for teacher is didaskalos. The paidagōgos was typically a trusted household slave assigned to escort children to and from school, keep them under discipline in public, and ensure their moral conduct — a role strictly temporary and ending when the child reached legal maturity. Paul's analogy casts the Torah as a custodial guardian-escort, not an instructor; its role is disciplinary and protective until the appointed time of maturity in Messiah. Translating it as "tutor" or "schoolmaster" imports an educational function that fundamentally misreads Paul's point.
