Footnotes

"Pillars" (Gk. styloi) was likely an honorific title in the early Jerusalem community, possibly evoking the pillars of the Temple or the cosmic pillars of Jewish apocalyptic. The "right hand of fellowship" (koinōnias) was not merely a friendly gesture but a binding covenantal agreement of shared mission — the ancient equivalent of a treaty.
