Footnotes

The communal purification 'together as one' (*yaḥad*) carries covenantal weight — the same word used of Israel's unified assembly. The priests slaughtering the Passover on behalf of the whole community echoes the Levitical Passover of Hezekiah's reform (2 Chr 30:17), where those who could not purify themselves had the Levites act on their behalf. It is also a priestly foreshadowing: the one pure High Priest who offers the ultimate Pesach sacrifice on behalf of all who cannot render themselves clean.
