Osnapper' (*Asnapper*) is widely identified with Ashurbanipal, the great Assyrian king (668–627 BCE), though the identification is not universally certain. *Abar-Nahara* ('Beyond-the-River') is the Persian satrapy west of the Euphrates, encompassing Canaan, Phoenicia, and Syria — the very land of Israel's inheritance. FOG renders the Aramaic literally as 'Abar-Nahara' and 'Shomron'; FOG Message uses 'Trans-Euphrates' and 'Samaria.'
