Golah — 'the exile community' — is a loaded technical term throughout Ezra-Nehemiah, denoting not merely displaced persons but the covenantal remnant whose genealogical, priestly, and Levitical continuity are carefully maintained as marks of legitimate connection with pre-exilic Israel. The verb he'elah ('brought up,' from 'alah) is the pilgrimage verb — the same root used for going up to Jerusalem at the feasts and for the Exodus ascent — it is theological movement, not merely geographical relocation. The vessels go home; the people follow. This is YHWH restoring what was taken and calling back what was scattered. FOG retains golah to honour the term's full covenant weight; FOG Message renders 'exiles,' letting the journey language carry the typological resonance.
