יַד יְהוִה (*yad YHWH*) — 'the hand of YHWH' is Ezekiel's signature phrase for the overwhelming, physically-felt onset of prophetic vision or trance (cf. 1:3; 3:14, 22; 37:1; 40:1). The verb נָפַל (*nafal*, 'to fall') conveys sudden, irresistible weight — not a gentle leading but a violent seizure of the prophet by divine power. The elders had presumably come seeking a word; instead, the prophet is taken entirely beyond them. FOG preserves 'hand of Adonai YHWH' as a technical covenantal term; FOG Message renders 'the hand of the Lord Yahweh' to carry the same weight in traditional English idiom.
