The washing of the *olah* (עוֹלָה, burnt/ascent offering) echoes Lev. 1:9, 13, where the priest rinses the legs and innards before laying them on the fire. Its placement at the threshold—before one enters the inner court—mirrors the laver (*kiyor*, כִּיּוֹר) of the Mosaic tabernacle, stationed between the altar and the Holy Place (Exod. 30:17–21). Every architecture of holiness requires ritual cleansing before approach. FOG and FOG Message both retain 'burnt offerings' as the technical term for the *olah*; FOG Message adds 'before they were brought to the altar' to make the sequence of holiness explicit.
