The date formula places this arrival in approximately January 585 BCE (or December 586 BCE by some reckoning). The Hebrew פָּלִיט (*palit*) — "one who has escaped" — is a technical term for a survivor of violent catastrophe. This verse marks the structural hinge of the entire book of Ezekiel: the first 32 chapters proclaimed judgment; from chapter 33 onward, the prophetic focus pivots to restoration and hope. Ezek. 24:27 had explicitly promised that Ezekiel's mouth would be opened when this survivor arrived — the fulfilment in v. 22 confirms the precision of prophetic authority. FOG uses "Yerushalayim" and "survivor"; FOG Message uses "Jerusalem" and the same term.
