Translations
Suppose I tell a righteous person, "You will surely live." But if they trust in their own righteousness and do evil, none of their righteous deeds will be counted. Because of the evil they have done, they will die.
When I say to the righteous, "You shall surely live," yet he trusts in his own righteousness and commits injustice — none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; in the injustice he has done, he will die.
When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
If I tell the righteous man that he will surely live, but he then trusts in his righteousness and commits iniquity, then none of his righteous works will be remembered; he will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
