The *ye'orim* (יְאֹרִים) are the Nile channels and canals—the entire hydraulic infrastructure upon which Egyptian agriculture, religion, and civilisation depended. The Nile was deified as the god Hapy; to dry it is to defeat Egypt's god on its own ground, echoing the Exodus plagues that attacked Egypt's divine powers one by one. The verb *umakharti* ('I will sell') is startling: YHWH treats Egypt as a tradeable commodity, inverting a land that built its wealth on selling others into slavery. The closing formula—'I am YHWH—I have spoken'—functions as a divine oath, the Creator staking His personal name on the fulfilment of the word.
