The *Gammadim* (גַּמָּדִים) are unidentified — possibly a warrior-people from near Hamath, or a term for a class of elite mercenary. The Septuagint renders them as "Pygmies" (reading *gamad* as "short"), which most scholars reject. Their obscurity is itself significant: even unknown peoples of the earth adorned Tyre's walls. The chapter's second use of "completed your beauty" (כָּלְלוּ יָפְיֵךְ, echoing v.4) closes the architectural portrait — Tyre is now fully built, and the poet has laid the groundwork for her total dismantling.
