*Kateph* (כָּתֵף), 'shoulder' or 'flank/side,' uses body-language to picture Moab's geographic exposure—its defensive border-flank stripped bare to invasion. The three named cities were prizes of the Moabite plateau, collectively called *tz'vi ha'aretz* (צְבִי הָאָרֶץ), 'glory/pride of the land.' FOG renders *kateph* as 'flank' for its military-anatomical resonance; FOG Message uses 'shoulder,' the more literal rendering, which remains viscerally evocative in English.
