גֵּר (ger)—the resident alien or sojourner—is among the most protected figures in Torah (Lev 19:33–34; Deut 10:18–19). Israel was commanded to love the ger precisely because they themselves had been gerim in Egypt. To exploit the ger was not merely a social failure but a direct covenant violation, striking at the heart of Israel's identity as a delivered people.
