תָּפֵל (taphel) is insipid, tasteless plaster—the kind used to cover a crumbling wall. The image recurs in Ezek 13:10–14, where false prophets coat a flimsy wall with whitewash instead of real mortar: it looks solid until the storm comes. Yeshua's condemnation of the scribes and Pharisees as 'whitewashed tombs' (Matt 23:27) almost certainly echoes this precise Ezekielian image, transplanting the prophet's charge onto a new generation of religious deceivers.
