*Raqia* (dome/vault) is the same word used in Genesis 1 for the solid architectural sky-dome. Ezekiel's vision places the divine throne above this cosmic structure, insisting that YHWH's sovereignty transcends the created order. *Sapir* most likely refers to lapis lazuli—a deep, heaven-blue stone—rather than modern sapphire, evoking the Sinai theophany where Moshe and the elders saw the God of Yisra'el standing on a pavement of sapphire (Exod. 24:10). The 'likeness of a throne' (*demut kisse*) is deliberately veiled language—the prophet sees a resemblance, not the throne itself.
