*Raqia* (רָקִיעַ) — the same word used for the dome of creation in Gen. 1:6–8, from a root meaning 'to beat out flat' or 'to hammer.' It describes a solid vaulted dome, not an abstract expanse. Here the *raqia* forms the floor of YHWH's throne room, just as in Genesis it divides upper waters from lower — the architecture of creation becomes the architecture of heaven. *Kerach ha-nora* (קֶרַח הַנּוֹרָא, awesome ice/crystal) is simultaneously translucent, hard, and overwhelming. FOG preserves 'raqia' and renders 'dome'; FOG Message uses 'expanse' to echo the creation account.
